Didactic treatment of the problems of contemporary democracy for teaching of social sciences

This master thesis deals with the issues of modern-day democracy and its didactic treatment of the way the school subject Social studies is taught at gymnázium schools. At first, the subject of democracy is discussed from many different angles, and those are compared to one another. Due to its didactic focus, the thesis partially uses school textbooks as a source. After that, great attention is given to four particular problems of the current democracy and a couple of different ways to view them. The discussed problems are inequality, education, populism, and epistemic disfiguration. Moreover, the thesis features an analysis of the approach to the subject in general education programs for gymnáziom schools. This analysis is followed up with another analysis, which deals with the treatment of the subject in the selected education programs at four different gymnázium schools, which are then compared to one another. In another subchapter, the thesis dissects the amount of attention that is paid to the problems of the current democracy in textbooks for secondary schools. These textbooks are then compared. Electoral geography of SPD

This thesis deals with the characteristic of electoral geography of the political movement Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) in the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in the years 2017 and 2021, as well as its putting to the context with spatial distribution patterns of electoral results of ideologically closest political parties, which are the Dawn of Direct Democracy (Úsvit) in 2013 and Tricolour Freedomites Freeholders (TSS) in 2021. The analysis of these patterns is examined at the level of administrative divisions of municipalities, using the method of P. Jehlička and L. Sýkora. Then is used the analysis of determination of these electoral results with the social-economic character of the Czech electorate. Among the most important findings belongs the identification of high electoral support of SPD in the frontier areas, confirmation of common patterns of the 2017 results with the character of the Úsvit support and conversely its non-finding in the 2021 election with the TSS. There was also confirmed positive correlation of electoral support with the rate of unemployment, as well as with the rate of persons without secondary graduation.
Inequalities for talented pupils of high schools

The thesis contains a textbook for high school pupils. The aim of the textbook is to teach the reader how to solve problems concerning inequalities proposed at czech or international mathematical competitions for high school pupils. In the first part we present some basic ineqaulities (AG, Cauchy's inequality) and we show how to understand them and how to use them. In the second part we broaden reader's horizon by presenting rearrangement and Jensen's inequality. In the third part we present widely applicable methods such as "Abstract Concreteness Method" or "Sum of Squares Method". Some techniques concerning the Sum of Squares Method were written by Phan Kim Hung in 2006. We are trying to significantly involve the reader. We prefer just hints to many of the proposed problems rather than complete solutions and we give some harder problems to solve at the end of each part. 1
Obesity in the light of socio-economic inequalities

Obesity, being one of the most crucial health problems, affects an increasing part of the world population as it has severe health, social, psychological and economic consequences. Its main cause lies in today's obesogenic environment characterised by a passive lifestyle, easy access to energy- dense foods and their aggressive marketing strategies. Because of significant changes in both production and consumption, it is not possible to blame obesity merely on individual lifestyle choices. An important feature of today's obesity epidemic is its uneven distribution. Obesity prevalence is besides other things determined by education, income, gender, family status and age. Analysis of available data showed that also in the Czech Republic the occurrence of obesity has been increasing and the number of overweight and obese people is higher than the number of people with normal weight. The assumption that there be higher prevalence of excess weight among men was confirmed, however, the expected higher prevalence of obesity among women was disproved; both genders suffer from obesity equally, yet the tendency towards obesity increases more significantly among men. Spatial dimension of systemic rasism in Myrtle Beach

The bachelor's thesis with title The Spatial Dimension of Systemic Racism in Myrtle Beach focuses on how inequalities are maintained in case of afroamerican community in Myrtle Beach, the USA. Specifically, the thesis follows how is the systematic racism projected in a spatial dimension of the city. The thesis work with the data from the census in the USA and biographical interviews with members of the afroamerican community. The data help to uncover the inequalities of the afroamerican community compared to white Americans, especially using the maps of Myrtle Beach. The biographical interviews focus on identification of borderline or crucial situations that show the impact of systematic racism on the lives of Afroamericans, as well as the explanation of racism and inequalities in the city by members of the afroamerican community, and discrimination within the city space. The thesis works with the hypothesis of historical conditionality of inequalities, which together with the setting of the social system influence the actions and life decisions of the afroamerican community in the city of Myrtle Beach and the overall functioning of the city. Economic inequalities in EU: capital flows between the core and the periphery

The subject of this bachelor thesis is the economic inequalities in the European Union between 1999 and 2018, with the aim to analyze the impact of capital flows resulting from dividends and remittances paid out on the development of spatial disparities between national states. The first part of the thesis attempts to anchor the theme into the concept of the World system by I. Wallerstein with an overlap into the historical context, which formed the basis for today's polarization of Europe. The following is a brief description of the pros and cons of inequalities with the presentation of the European Union's efforts to address this problem. In the methodological part there are described the tools for the study of variability and capital flows. The empirical study applies methodological approaches to the specific data of gross domestic product and gross disposable income coming mainly from Eurostat. Perceived Inequalities by Immigrant Students in Czechia

The Diploma thesis presents how teenage students from third countries understand their daily life problems and difficulties which happen to them as a consequence of being a foreigner in a host country. Based on an analysis of ten semi-structural interviews, it is shown that students face several types of problems. The situations mentioned reveal a lack of recognition of their position in the Czech Republic; however, students perceive problems this way rarely. Even though students describe relatively large amount of language and scholastic difficulties, and problems with classmates and unpleasant encounters outside of the school environment, they tend not to see them as inequalities but rather as inevitable situations connected to their status of being a foreigner. They also often understand the problems as individual experiences which do not happen collectively, they see these problems as exceptions and bad luck or as the same problems that Czechs have. Sometimes the problems are seen as inexplicable by the students. Only when an experience is strong enough, they perceive it as a racist behavior or discrimination. Despite the fact that students sometimes demonstrate an inability to react to such behavior, they create several strategies on how to avoid them and how to deal with them. What...
